FG releases modalities for national conference

The  Federal Government on Thursday released the modalities for  the nomination of delegates to the  proposed national conference. The government, in a statement read  to journalists by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim  Pius Anyim,  said the conference, which would hold in the Federal Capital Territory ,would last for  three months.  Present at the media briefing were the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on National Dialogue, Senator Femi Okurounmu, and  the  Secretary, Dr. Akilu Indabawa.  No fewer than    492 nominees  are  expected to participate in the  conference whose  full name shall be: “The National Conference.”Anyim, who was silent on the actual date for the take-off of the conference,  said decisions  reached by the delegates would be by consensus. He added  that where consensus was not achievable, it would be by 75 per cent majority. Anyim  said that  the conference would advise the government on the legal framework

Phantom IBB Letter to Jonathan Raises Stir

A media stir over an alleged open letter from former military president, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida to President Goodluck Jonathan was calming late yesterday after raising concerns among close associates of the two men. The letter which was a regurgitation of a statement issued by Babangida on the state of the nation in July 2011 was rehearsed to fit in with present realities. The statement received a life of its own after it was posted on the facebook page of All Progressives Congress, APC Deputy National Secretary, Mallam Nasir El-rufai. The letter was, however, dismissed as a concoction by Mr. Kassim Afegbua, erstwhile media aide to Gen. Babangida who was quoted to have released the letter in a statement. Afegbua who is now spokesman to Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State described the statement as an act of blackmail saying he did not issue the statement and that it did not come from Babangida. Man declared wanted over N4m dud cheque BY TONY EDIKE ENUGU— The Enugu State Police have declared one Benneth Nkwocha wanted for allegedly issuing a dud cheque of N4.040 million. The 40-year-old man, who is now at large, is said to have issued the cheque to one Zed Chukwujama. According to a statement issued in Enugu, Nkwocha, a resident of No 44b, Imoke Street, G.R.A Enugu, disappeared after issuing the cheque. The statement signed by the police spokesman in the state, Ebere Amaraizu disclosed that “the suspect issued the dud cheque of four million, forty thousand naira having paid in the sum of one million naira out of the sum of five million, forty thousand naira, which a court had earlier awarded against him in a civil suit against him at the Court of Appeal. “The person who the dud cheque was issued in his favour, Zed Chukwujama had gone to one of the new generation banks for the payment of the said amount when he was informed that the suspect had no such amount of m
